Street Soccer Students tour Bramall Lane

Over the last month our Education Department has continued to deliver the Street Soccer Academy programme in partnership with the Street Soccer Foundation. During this month, participants have worked on confidence building, social skills and employability skills whilst also enjoying a tour of Bramall Lane.
During the tour, participants were able to sit in the Manager’s dug out, look around the changing rooms ahead of the new season and walk out of the tunnel. The tour was a reward for the participants’ commitment to the programme and we now look ahead to our first Street Soccer Graduation event in July.
Liam Tongue, Education Tutor, said: “It has been fantastic to set up the Street Soccer Academy to help tackle homelessness and personal develop within Sheffield.
“Over the ten-week period working with the individuals we have seen some fantastic progression in all participants.
“We now have a group of individuals who are more confident, more active and in a much better mindset. During our time with the participants, we have seen individuals sign up the gym, take on volunteering and even some carrying out their dream of baking and even bringing their cakes with them on a Wednesday!
“It has been a challenge, but a very rewarding one!”
On completion of the course the participants will represent Sheffield United Community Foundation in August at the Street Soccer Cup held at the home of England football teams, St Georges Park.
