Sheffield United Community College Launches New U23s Football Programme for 2026/27

Sheffield United Community Foundation is proud to announce the launch of its brand-new U23s Football Programme, delivered under the banner of Sheffield United Futures, beginning in the 2026/27 season.

The programme is designed to provide a genuine pathway for players aged 18–23; a stage where opportunities in football can often be limited. Blending high-level training and competition with university study and career support, the programme reflects Sheffield United Community College’s commitment to developing players both on and off the pitch.

The programme has also been introduced to supplement the College’s growing Higher Education provision which includes degrees in Sport Business and Sports Coaching, giving students the chance to combine degree-level study with a professional-style football programme.

Aiden Spowage, Head of Football said: “The U23s programme has been created to give players a genuine pathway at a stage where opportunities can often be limited. Our focus is on supporting those who still want to train and play at a high level while keeping doors open for their future. Whether that’s moving into non-league football, continuing their education, or combining both, we’re here to support them every step of the way.”

Programme Highlights

  • Professional-style training: three weekly team sessions plus specialist goalkeeper coaching.
  • Strength & Conditioning and gym support led by qualified coaches.
  • Weekly fixtures in the U23s National Football Youth League (NFYL).
  • Showcase matches against professional academies.
  • Optional education pathway with degree-level study in Sports Coaching or Sports Business.

Routes Into the Programme

  • Academic Pathway – Students can join free as part of a Higher Education degree at SUCC.
  • External Pathway – Players can enrol independently via a paid annual fee, covering all football provision.
