Sheffield United Community College Announces New Partnership with Mr D’z Gym

Sheffield United Community College is excited to announce a new partnership with Mr D’z Gym, set to launch in July 2025. This collaboration will provide college students based at our Handsworth site with access to weekly strength and conditioning sessions, enhancing their physical development and further aligning the college’s programme with a professional academy model.

Ryan Collins, Education Manger, commented on the partnership: “We’ve been striving to secure a strength and conditioning facility for a number of years, so discovering a purpose-built gym less than a mile from our Handsworth site felt like the perfect fit. Mr D’z is a family-run gym, which aligns perfectly with the Foundation’s wider goal of supporting local people and businesses. We’re really looking forward to building a long-term relationship with Ryan and his team.”

The new strength and conditioning sessions form part of a wider refresh of the college’s Football Enrichment Pathway for the 2025/26 academic year. Enhancements will include weekly performance analysis workshops, breakfast provision being offered to students, regular gym access, improved matchday media coverage, fitness tracking and data application, and the return of the Women’s Programme to Handsworth.

Aiden Spowage, Head of Football said: “We’ve enjoyed a fantastic year across our football programmes. Our Men’s Elite side achieved a historic league and cup double, whilst our Women’s team secured their highest-ever finish – an incredible milestone. But we’re not standing still. Our focus now is on building a programme that attracts the very best local talent to the college. To achieve that, we’re committed to a holistic approach – developing our players not just on the pitch, but off it too, helping them grow as athletes and as individuals.”

Ryan from Mr D’z Gym led pilot sessions for College staff, which were designed to familiarise our coaches with the facility and give students a taster of what’s to come.

During the session, we spoke to Ryan about the partnership:“We are thrilled that Mr D’z Gym will be collaborating with Sheffield United Community College in the near future. With over 38 years of experience in strength and conditioning, we are eager to support the college and its students. Our goal is to develop programmes that fully integrate within our facilities, ensuring that every student can achieve their maximum potential in each session. Looking forward to what we can accomplish together!”

This exciting new partnership will officially launch in July 2025 as part of the students’ pre-season programme. For more information about our Football Enrichment Pathway or any other college-related programmes, please visit our College here.
