Take a look at Rio’s story to see how the Premier League Primary Stars programme has helped him overcome difficulties in his childhood and bring out his confidence.
Rio, who attends Rivelin Primary School, “had a really tough past,” explains Rob Jenkinson, school sport co-ordinator at the Foundation. “He lost his mum when he was very young and he has not got contact with his dad. He has struggled at school and bullying made him withdraw from participating in class.”
With the help of staff at the Foundation and use of the PL Primary Stars resources, “Rio seems a lot happier now and he almost skips into school”, says Sheenagh Middleton, deputy head at Rivelin Primary School.
Premier League Primary Stars is designed to inspire children inside and outside the classroom.
“Sheffield United helped me a lot and without them, I wouldn’t be the person I am today”, Rio says.
