Parkwood Students Drive Gender Equality in Premier League Inspires Challenge

Young Women from E-ACT Parkwood Academy have rewritten the rules on Gender Inequalities this year whilst participating in the Premier League Inspires Challenge.

The focus of the challenge was to create a social action which allows their voices to be heard and focuses on allowing football to be everybody’s game.

The incredible young women from Parkwood have harnessed their personal experiences with gender inequalities to make a real difference. By actively engaging with influential stakeholders such as Sheffield United Women’s captain Satara Murray and Her Game Too, they’ve transformed their learning journey into something truly inspiring.

This year’s social action campaign is all about the power of education and how it can shape gender and equality in sports. The students will be launching “Girls Got Balls”, a podcast recorded and produced at Bramall Lane, which will see them interview educators, peers, and guest speakers to spark positive conversations about change. They are committed to making this a long-term project, passing the baton to future students to ensure its sustainability.

E-ACT, the multi-academy Trust with 38 academies across the UK plans to roll out these podcasts across all academies, amplifying the voices of students and spreading positivity. Together, they’ll keep the conversation alive about the issues that matter most to them.

Faye Hackwell of Her Game Too said of the Parkwood group: “I was really impressed by the range of ideas and preparation that had gone into the presentations. The proposals covered such a wide array of issues surrounding gender equality and it was clear a lot of thought and research had been put in by all of the students involved. Her Game Too is all about ensuring sport is accessible and enjoyable for all women and girls, and these ideas encompassed our ethos perfectly.”

Brad Fox, Employability Coordinator at the Foundation said: ”This has been a fantastic year for the challenge, with the young people driving and developing some great ideas which has allowed their influential voices to be heard. We’re so excited to see how the young people bring their ideas to life and use their passion for change.”

Premier League Inspires is delivered across secondary schools within Sheffield and focuses on key areas such as building resilience, motivation and helping students realise their potential. Learn more at sufc-community.com.
