Mental Health Football Sessions

It’s #MentalHealthAwareness Week and as part of Sheffield United Community Foundation we have three mental health football sessions up and running to help men, women and young people with their mental health issues.
The sessions are free and available to those that have mild to moderate mental health issues or that may be feeling low. Please find the details for our men’s, women’s and young people’s sessions below.
Men’s Mental Health Football
Location: Goodwin Sports Centre
Time: Tuesdays, 2-3pm
Age: 16+
Description: This is a men’s mental health football session which gives individuals the opportunity to play football in an enjoyable and inclusive environment. The session promotes positivity and is supported by Brunsmeer Awareness.
Women’s Mental Health Football
Location: Goodwin Sports Centre
Time: Wednesdays, 7-8pm
Age: 16+
Description: This mental health session is a footballing session for women. Supported by Sheffield Flourish, this session gives participants the chance to keep fit and active by playing football in a friendly environment, whilst also being able to access mental health support if they need it.
Young People’s Mental Health Football
Location: SGP Thorncliffe
Time: 4-6pm Thursdays
Age: 12-15years
Description: This newly launched Young People’s mental health football session is a two-hour session made up of an hour of football and an hour of social activity. In partnership with Strong Minds together and SGP Thorncliffe, this session has been created to allow participants to have fun, play football and have the ability to access mental support if they need it.
The social part of the session operates in a ‘Youth Club’ style, with break out rooms, arts and crafts, workshops and games available to play. A mental health worker will also be accessible throughout the duration of the session, for young people to speak to.
