Jack’s Trainee Journey
We recently caught up with Jack, a graduate of our Traineeship Programme, to talk about how the programme helped him on his career pathway. Jack joined the programme with the Foundation in June 2021 to gain some vital work experience as a sports coach.
Over the 12-week programme, Jack developed a great number of skills through his desire and readiness to take on the challenges set to him. His attitude towards work and determination made him a role model among other trainees and a real testament to what hard work can achieve.
Jack said, “The programme gave me priceless work experience within football coaching and the opportunity to gain my first aid qualification too. The Traineeship Programme also helped me get my foot in the door with Sheffield United Community Foundation and really kickstart my career within the industry.”
After completion of the programme, Jack stayed involved with the Foundation, progressing on to our Foundation Degree where he works as a coach across a variety of sessions, all while undertaking his university degree.
Jack added, “I’m currently in my second year of university with the University of South Wales / Sheffield United Community Foundation where I am undertaking a Bachelor of Science degree in Football Coaching and Sports Development. While on my university course I’ve also had the opportunity to do part-time work with the Foundation delivering PE sessions. Being exposed to these opportunities has helped me so much in developing as an individual and as a coach.”

I am delighted for how it has worked out for Jack, and it is a pleasure to see him carrying on his development at the Foundation. Jack is a testament to the clear pathway trainees can take with us given the right attitude and commitment.”
