Health Walks at Bramall Lane

The ‘Health Walk’ initiative has been running from Bramall Lane for the last two years. In partnership with Step Out Sheffield and Drink, Wise, Age Well the programme aims to engage with individuals to tackle inactivity and social isolation.

The sessions run from Bramall Lane every Wednesday from 10am until 12pm and most walkers are retired, older walkers, and the group walk at a pace that suits everyone. A big part of this initiative is to tackle inactivity but also social isolation. To help prevent this, there are opportunities to socialise with other walkers afterwards, over a cup of tea and biscuits in the Blades Family Hub area.

Sheffield United Community Foundation offered to help when approached by Step Out Sheffield volunteers, after the council pulled out of the programme. Nigel Ross, Volunteer Walker and Treasurer of Step Out Sheffield, speaks about how the Community Foundation has helped.

“The council pulled out over three years ago and the programme was taken over by volunteers. We started communications with Sheffield United Community Foundation and within a couple of days a meeting was sorted to help start the walks from Bramall Lane.’

‘With the top end of 30 walkers regularly attending, Bramall Lane has been a huge pull, particularly amongst male participants which is a demographic that we sometimes struggle to hit.

‘It’s a feather in our cap that we’ve got a walk at a Premier League Club.”

To join our Health Walk, please meet us every Wednesday at 10am at the statues in the Bramall Lane main car park. The walk usually takes around an hour, with hot drinks and biscuits available afterwards.
