HAF Summer Camp provided FREE Basketball sessions for children over summer!

Over summer Sheffield United Community Foundation organised a summer basketball camps for children in Sheffield aged 8-18. The camps were funded by Sheffield City Council and Holiday Activities and Food Funding for Children.

The camp was put on to provide a safe space for children to play basketball (most of which would be for the first time!) and experience basketball coaching that they wouldn’t normally get access to. Children were also provided with a free meal at lunchtime.

Over 70 participants of varying abilities attended the camps. It was fantastic to see some new faces. The sessions were free of charge and provided children with an excellent opportunity to take part in something a little bit different.

Ariel Parrucci, Sheffield United Community Foundation Basketball Coach, said: “Our basketball camps were one of only a few organised basketball activity options for young people in the city over the summer, and were welcomed by the participants and their families”.

“Participants benefited from the individualised attention and encouragement given by the coaching staff, to develop existing and new skills confidently.”

“The camps also offered opportunities for participants to interact and develop their social skills as they brought together a diverse group of young people from different backgrounds.”

“We have received very positive and encouraging feedback from participants and their families, and we look forward to providing more basketball camps in the future”.
