Kit Out Sheffield

We’re proud to support StreetGames and Yorkshire Sport Foundation’s KitOut campaign this autumn – giving pre-loved sports kit a new lease of life and helping more children get active.

For many young people in Sheffield, a lack of suitable kit is a major barrier to participating in sport, especially in low-income communities. KitOut tackles this by collecting unwanted sportswear, cleaning it, and redistributing it to local families – reducing both stigma and waste.

With 25 drop-off points across Sheffield in September and October, now’s the perfect time to have a clear-out and donate. Every item makes a difference.

College Students to Walk for Support Dogs

On Thursday 23rd October, Sheffield United Community College students will be lacing up their walking boots to raise money for Support Dogs, a national charity that trains and supports assistance dogs for people with autism, epilepsy, and physical disabilities. These amazing dogs transform lives, giving people greater confidence, independence, and security.

Students will take on a 25-mile, 12-hour South Yorkshire Football Stadium Tour Walk. The route starts at Doncaster Rovers’ Eco-Power Stadium, passes through Rotherham United’s AESSEAL New York Stadium, then on to Sheffield Wednesday’s Hillsborough stadium, before finishing at Bramall Lane. The walk will be a real test of teamwork and determination, but also a fantastic way to raise awareness and funds for a truly life-changing cause.

Last year, our students raised over £3,000 for YoungMinds. This year, with Support Dogs even joining us along parts of the route, we’re aiming to go one better and make an even bigger impact. Every penny raised will help Support Dogs continue their incredible work supporting families across the UK.

Youth Hub Visit Graves Park

This month at the Youth Hub, our participants joined us for a walk at Graves Park. Mike and Jessie from the Youth Hub, accompanied by Lorraina and Amy from the DWP, met the young people at the Hub and travelled altogether via bus to the park.

One of the key goals of the Youth Hub is to broaden social horizons and build confidence. This walk gave the young people a chance to meet others in similar circumstances, share experiences, and practice social skills in a relaxed environment. Many of the group pushed themselves out of their comfort zone by attending on their own, but by the end of the walk, every participant had spoken to at least one new person, which is a great step towards building confidence.

Frank, a customer at the Youth Hub, said of the walk, “It was a chance to chat with work coaches in a relaxed environment and it was nice to meet others in the same position as you.”

The walk wasn’t just a fun day out, it was also a chance to build skills like communication, teamwork, and confidence, all of which are important when taking steps towards work or training. After seeing how well this activity went, the Youth Hub team are looking forward to planning more opportunities like this, giving young people the space to meet others and move closer to reaching their goals.
