Community Catch Up: November

Welcome to Sheffield United Community Foundation’s monthly review!

Find out what’s been happening at Sheffield United Community Foundation and what we’ve got coming up!

Men’s Health Awareness Month

As part of Men’s Health Awareness Month, Blades midfielder Tom Davies sat down with Mike McCarthy from our men’s mental health group, Talk Club, and Ben from 84 John ST to share honest conversations about support, struggles and strength.

Suicide is the biggest killer of men under the age of 50. The biggest step we can take to fight this, is to encourage men to talk openly about their feelings and provide as much as support as possible.

Our men’s Talk Club takes place every Wednesday, 6-8pm, at the Blades Family Hub on John Street (S2 4QX). All men are welcome to turn up on the night, no registration needed. For more information about the session please contact health@sufc-community.co.uk.

Check out the video above and watch the powerful conversation that Tom, Mike and Ben had around their mental health experiences.

Youth Hub Careers Fair

Last week our Youth Hub held our biggest ever Careers Fair at the Double Tree Hilton at Bramall Lane. The event was a great success with over 200 young people and 26 Employers & Providers in attendance, and we’ve had nothing but positive feedback from all. We can’t wait to hear about all the success stories in the coming weeks!

Events such as this enable us to give young people the opportunity to engage with providers and employers that may not otherwise have access to. They are a key part of the engagement we try and create at the Youth Hub to bring as many opportunities as possible for our customers to get into work.

Careers Fairs are a brilliant opportunity for Employers and Providers to network amongst themselves, and help them gain insight into how they can support each other and the wider communities. We received such positive feedback from employers regarding our young people and hope all who attended felt the event was just as useful for their own business as it was for us and our young people.

Treeton C of E Primary School triumphed in the EFL Utilita Kids Cup at Leisure United Graves, taking them to the regional stage on the road to Wembley!
