Blades in Europe

Sheffield United Community Foundation are proud to be part of an incredible network of clubs across Europe in joining EFDN (European Football for Development Network).

The Foundation, the associated charity of Sheffield United Football Club, will be attending the 13th annual conference in Barcelona to share best practice and learn from clubs as Juventus, Olympique Marseille and FC Barcelona.

The European Football for Development Network consists of professional football clubs, leagues and FAs who are committed to their communities and social responsibilities and have the passion to cooperate and engage on a European level.

The network aims to promote the power of football as a tool for social development and support the efforts of the network members in their initiatives to use football to reach out to various target groups in their communities.  This creates a collaborative environment for knowledge sharing in order to develop a diversity of training methods that will directly benefit communities throughout Europe.

Chris Bailey, United’s head of foundation said: “Being part of the European Football for Development Network is a great opportunity to develop our knowledge of how other clubs work, to enhance our local communities.”

The Foundation programmes are aimed at strengthening self-esteem, developing personal skills, promoting health and well-being, improving academic achievement and generally empowering people in the city.

Examples of what the Foundation offers within the education programme include a women and girls’ specific course, hosting of football camps, organising school and disability sport and promoting health and well-being through several programmes including Fans FC – a programme focused for people affected by cancer.
