400 Books delivered to Schools in Sheffield during World Book Day

Sheffield United Community Foundation’s Participation & Inclusion strand delivered 400 books to 10 schools across Sheffield during World Book Day.
The books were given to the Foundation as part of an exciting partnership with the National Literacy Trust and the Premier League to help celebrate World Book Day.
James Morley, PL Primary Stars Coordinator, said: “Over the past 12 months we have had to adapt how we approach schools and how we continue to deliver on key school dates.
“This year on world book day, we were unable to deliver our usual Premier League reading stars programme, so being able to deliver free books into schools was huge positive for us.”
“Everyone at Nether Green Junior School would like to say a huge thank you to the Sheffield United Community Foundation for providing our school with 50 brand new books for World Book Day” said Mr Hancock, Year 5 Teacher at Nether Green Junior School.
“These books have been distributed amongst all of our classes, and the children are already loving our latest additions to their reading corners.”
National Literacy Trust research has found that children who have their own books are nearly three times more likely to enjoy reading. The partnership will help support children whose access to physical books has been made difficult due to school and public library closures during the national lockdown.
